The End of Like and Share on Facebook?

What a statement. The end of Like and Share on Facebook! That is what Facebook have basically done with their new algorithm last month.

For as long as I can remember I have seen "If you enjoyed a post, (normally with a cute picture of some description) please Like and Share!" on my newsfeed. Mostly is mindless, banal content that makes you feel happy when you first see it but I do remember seeing hundreds of things like this all the time on my newsfeed a couple of years ago. I am more prescriptive with the pages I "Like" now, but that's the nature of the beast of being a marketer.

It does make you wonder if "going viral" is going to be possible after this algorithm kicks in though? I haven't seen if there is a minimum amount of times you can do it, or if it's wording just yet but this is something that will be learnt over time. Normally if you ask people to share your content or even Like it (a call to action) then most of the time they do (though they don't seem to want to very often on my Facebook page at the moment)This information was gleaned from Facebook Newsroom (and a few others), so be rest assured they are at the forefront of all the updates from Facebook. I personally would find these types of posts spammy but that's because I use Facebook for business and over time have come to Like a LOT of pages. I wish I could specify what the criteria is but its a floating change at the moment due to its new-ness...

Text updates are getting a bit of a bashing also. This means we are all going to have to be a bit more imaginative when it comes to posting! Videos and Links are the best way forward now and provide the most impact if you use Youtube to download your videos (namely because Google is the largest search engine and Youtube is owned by them!)
