Asking for help?

Business Mindset

No one likes asking for help, some people think it shows a level of weakness or lack of organisation. Personally I feel it shows that you are open to learning more and it takes courage to ask for help.

For the past few years I have been a major advocate of an Irish charity called Cuidiu. They support families from before to beyond with parenting, birthing and breastfeeding. The day I asked for help from the charity I got it and got it in spades. I didn't feel belittled or foolish but felt relieved that there was someone who could help me. When I set up my company I wanted to help others too and thankfully I have been in a position where I can help.

Now you maybe wondering why I have written this post, so lets make it clear now. Even I have to ask for help occasionally, even now!

When I started this blog back in April 2013 and I now look back and see how much I have personally grown along with my business, my sense of purpose has changed so much. You can never really know if I you can get your business off the ground, but with the likes of my husband, my friends and some fabulous contacts that I have made along the way, I can now say I feel a lot more confident about myself and my business. I've been given opportunities because of the people I have in my life that I would never have probably thought possible and I intend to make the best of them, but how did I get these opportunities? Because I asked for help!

If you have been following my blog for any time at all, you will know I am BIG supporter of the Local Enterprise Office. When I lived in Co Wicklow, I had fabulous support from Wicklow LEO, they had an amazing amount of training available and always brilliant speakers. Some of them have since become friends of mine and I would happily recommend them on (and I do) to people.

I have spent the past couple of months again asking for help from people, I am looking at my website and upskilling myself even further and between getting mentoring and LEO I have been changing myself and my processes.

In essence, all I wanted to convey was that it's not a bad thing to ask for help but sometimes you have to take a step back and look at what you are doing and see if all the effort you are putting in is actually taking you in the direction you want to go in. If it's not, then something needs to change, it may be your business plan, your sense of purpose or upskilling yourself to go in the direction you want. Don't be afraid to ask for help or support from people who are already where you want to be, they understand you better than you think!Visit your local LEO (or me of course) and make those changes today.
