Do you remember when we had time once upon a time? When things were going nice and evenly and slowly? No...me neither actually.
All I can remember about last month is lots and lots of rain, the heating going on and Facebook, WhatsApp, Instagram and Messenger all going down for 6 hours and everyone losing their mind. The impact it had on businesses to some extent could have been profound hence why I'm sharing Jon Loomers post above.
There was another couple of bits of good news for me too actually. I started on Accelerator for my business under some coaching, so let's see where that takes me over the next 6 months, I also got accepted onto another panel and now deliver my training and support with Midland Border East Skillnet. Last bit of news for the month of October is I was put into the top 100 Content Marketers to follow right now by BuzzSumo, which is rather exciting!
Last but not least - let's not forget about my upcoming and inaugural event with the Monday Morning Marketing Podcast Workshop. We have FREE passes for this event coming up on the 15th of November. Just in time to get your marketing and mindset ready for 2022. Get your free pass here https://bit.ly/DMAT21SignUp and you can even pay for 6 weeks to keep the recordings or indeed permanently too!
Let's see what our Social Media Gods have in store for us today shall we?
Well kinda. There was a mention towards the beginning of last month that this was cropping up but we have since found out it's the parent company that is being rebranded. So nothing has really changed - just makes a promotional change for them really. Read more about it here.
However a few things have changed for the positive when it comes to Instagram.
IGTV and feed videos
These have now gotten streamlined by now becoming one tool and then "Meta" added some extra tools to boot. I must say it looks kinda nifty and relatively easy to use as well. There are ways of monetising your video content too once you fit the correct criteria. Learn more here.
Finally they have allowed this to happen. Still not entirely sure why they waited this long but there we go. So now you can open and access your Instagram, once logged in and click the plus button to add a photo or video to your feed. Obviously we've been able to post to our feed and stories for some time through Business Suite and previously just posts to Facebook and Instagram through Creator Studio. Will you be using this facility now that it's finally here I wonder? Learn more here.
Did you know you can get and give Reviews to businesses using Google My Business? In fact, the more you do, the better it is for them and you if you get some too.
People seem to Google everything these days - mostly because they want to check and see if they're getting value from whatever they're purchasing. So if you can find some independent reviews explaining the past experience of customers (just how Facebook works) it's excellent feedback. So where possible try and do reviews for businesses you have purchased from and start asking your customers to provide reviews for your business too. Read this blog to learn more.
When was the last time you looked at your LinkedIn profile? Has it been sometime since you have? Did you know you can change the picture behind your personal picture? It can be updated on a regular basis as well. Check out this blog from Forbes and see the simple steps you need to take to make these changes and update yours this month.
Now I won't say I entirely agree with this writers opinion on Company pages. They suggest that Company Pages simply don't work but the claim it de-prioritises is interesting and something I will look into. What the writer suggests is sure, put it up on your company page but maybe share it also on your own page as the personal profile usually does better.
I'd love to know your thoughts on this and if you have any feedback contact me and let me know. I'll write about this again if I get any! Read the blog post to make your own minds up.
I love the way this teacher in Cork is using TikTok to the betterment of not just himself but to the students that are watching. Edu-tainment really does need to be the end goal these days. Out digital natives are built so differently from Millenials and Boomers and frankly unless you engage them in this way, you're not gonna nab them.
One thing I have since noticed is we're all getting attuned to this type of marketing now and feel disappointed if we're not provoked with some emotional response of some sort. How times have changed. Anyway, have a watch of this chap and see if it's time you upended your style and created a more streamlined channel of information in this format. Read the blog for more.
If you're looking to create a strategy for your social media and overall digital marketing and would like to know how to do this by yourself for your own business or for the company you work for, then you maybe interested in doing this training that I offer.
I help you create it at a pace you set, filling in the gaps in your knowledge along the way. You'll be given work to do between the sessions that you can manage and that won't be overly disruptive to your everyday workload.
This will give you accountability and you can contact me anytime during the training if you have any questions that crop up between sessions.
I have regular time slots to offer this training and it can run either in 1 month, 6 weeks or even 12 weeks if you prefer! I can give you the dates to fit around both our schedules from day one so you know this in advance. If you would like to learn more about what this covers, then visit this page.
This course has been currently accepted by 5 Local Enterprise Office Areas as suitable for the Trading Online Voucher but you can also get this training directly. Check out all the lovely testimonials I have received regarding this course.

This past month has seen several changes and I feel these will be all for the better for businesses. There are still some supports out there that you can get a hold of either freely or inexpensively and as we all settle into our new normal we need to embrace these changes.
My business has been going through a "growing up" phase this last month tool. The Pandemic really shook the foundations of my business and I was crippled almost completely by it. I am very grateful for those businesses that stood by me however and especially by the management clients I have. Some of them I have for over 5 years!
I look forward to speaking to you all again next month!
